Progress Report 2024 Release

With Queensland government sitting on a significant number of disused, abandoned or decommissioned public facilities, and the urgent need for accommodating homeless members of our community, we believe the “community village” model is the ideal vehicle that presents a short, medium term solution to crisis accommodation.

Convincing the Government to act compassionately and provide QHWG access to any of these sites is a serious and frustrating challenge, and while there cannot possibly be a higher purpose for these abandoned sites right now, they lay idle and exposed to destruction by neglect and vandalism. Such is the case of the abandoned Tewantin TAFE site in the Noosa region. The 40 page document titled “Progress Report” provides an accurate update on the mission by QHWG to obtain use of the neglected Tewantin TAFE facility as a model ‘community village’. The dream to help reduce the homeless crisis and give people living rough some dignity, remains alive.
