Entry to the Land

How it works.

All who enter upon the land must respect this is a sacred ceremonial site of the First Nations peoples. To support this element and maintain a peaceful community environment, there is a simple list of rules that apply.

These rules are displayed on the entry permit and serve as a condition of entry to the village. Each adult must have an entry permit to enter upon the land, minors are to be accompanied by adults and permits are valid for three months. A gold coin donation accepted upon issue of each permit.

Community Village is steered by volunteers as part of the Qld Homelessness Working Group. The appointed Caretakers of the land are “traditional owners” the Kabi Kabi Peoples, and it is their wish that the land be used respectfully for the benefit of the community and the Sovereign First Nations peoples.

Site Management

The village operates as a “self organised collective” relying upon the community to share responsibilities and care for each other. Site managers appointed by QHWG to provide assistance to the village guests, keep vigilance over activities in the village and are tasked with facilitating entry permits. Site Managers are generally onsite day and night, while contact information is posted at the village office. Anyone entering the land without an Entry Permit must contact the site manager prior or speak with them directly at the village office.

Village Lore

Village Lore (rules) may be changed or updated from time to time without notice. Any changes to rules will take precedence over rules previously issued.

  1. Respect, maintain and protect the land water and air. Place rubbish in bins, keep spaces clean & tidy.
  2. Respect, maintain and protect all living things on the dha’ghun (land). Including each other.
  3. Authority to access dha’ghun (land) is by entry permit only issued by the appointed Kabi Kabi Caretaker and is not transferable to others.
  4. A permit may be revoked if a rule is broken. Permit holders will be given one opportunity to rectify the issue, and if they fail to do so in the shortest time possible, their permit will be revoked, whereupon they must immediately leave the dah’ghun. Any items left behind in the village will be set aside for collection within 24 hours, following which time, the items will be declared abandoned and offered for collection.
  5. For the safety of all, parking, camping and vehicle movement is to be confined to the designated areas. Any departure from the designated areas must be approved by the Caretaker’s appointed site manager and recorded on the village map by the site manager.
  6. Fires are restricted to approved locations and use of fires may be limited at the discretion of the site manager in respect to unfavorable weather conditions, local fire ban notices, or other relevant issues.
  7. Permit holders may enter and exit the village at any time, and must be considerate to others on the land by keeping the peace, not disturbing anyone, being considerate not to make noise that causes others distress. Adult family members are fully responsible for the behaviour of any of their mob who are under 18yrs of age.
  8. Maintain respect for kinship, circle of care and Kabi Kabi values.
  9. Drug and alcohol abuse, violence, aggression or behaviour by a person or persons that is considered a threat to the safety of people upon the land, will cause this permit to be revoked, under which circumstances rule 4 applies with the exception that the issue may not be rectified.
